YES has delivered, facilitated or supported training sessions for young people and professionals alike. Opportunities for young people have included:
- two-day courses in digital photography/image manipulation/Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher
- trash drumming tutors training
- information on youth rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), in association with Save the Children
- presentation and facilitation techniques
- peer education training (by young people, for young people)
- committee skills training using the Bored Meetings training pack
- health and safety
- LGBT awareness
- introduction to youth work
- gathering statistics
- literacies awareness.
In addition, young volunteers attended two capacity building residential events where they learned about groupwork skills, project evaluation and planning tools, volunteer management including recruitment, support systems and communications. They then created a job description, person specification and policies and procedures which together form a volunteer handbook which is available for use by all YES volunteers.
YES staff regularly deliver training sessions to other youth workers and professionals. Topics range from the work of the YES, to specific issue-based youth work practices, standards for community engagement, engaging and working with excluded groups, and committee skills. |
