Young people account for nearly 40% of the population in Dumfries and Galloway, with over 22% aged 17 or under and 16.4% aged 18-29. Improving their quality of life and supporting their personal, educational and social development is important for the future of our communities. In line with national and international legislation, Dumfries and Galloway Council is working to ensure that young people can engage in opportunities to increase their knowledge, skills and confidence, to become active citizens.
In 2004, HM Inspectors of Education recognised Community Learning and Development (CLD) in the Dumfries area as both a ‘good and improving’ service. CLD is now designing checklists to help youth workers to explore key issues with young people, so that young people can be safe, healthy, included, informed and active participants, learning and achieving within the region.
The Youth Enquiry Service (YES) plays an invaluable role by informing and engaging young people in creative and imaginative ways, facilitating their development so that they can realise their full potential, whatever their circumstances.
YES offers lively activities and useful, relevant services in a safe, friendly, relaxed, supportive environment. Here, young people are listened to and heard. They can access information, advice, support and opportunities, gain new skills and contribute to decision-making, whatever their age, gender, race, disability, sexuality, identity or culture.
The service welcomes new faces and new opportunities to work in partnership. Whether you are a young person or an adult who works with young people, it makes sense to contact YES.
