 | Trash Drumming is an ongoing project, originally started by the YES in 1998. It has proved to be one of the service’s most enduring and popular activities. Trash music is a form of music and performance which utilises junk materials. The way it is taught – as devised by Bill Muir, Jamm Trash Music Project - allows for participation by all abilities and skill levels, so everyone can participate. As a tool it is recognised for its team building, buddying, confidence building and anger management qualities. It lends itself well to all areas of youth work as well as providing a dynamic performance piece. |
| The YES Trash Drumming group have performed not only at YES events such as the service’s reopening and Rootz but in a variety of settings, from the Wickerman and Pride Festivals in Edinburgh and Glasgow, to Dialogue Youth’s Youthbank launch and impromptu performances in Dumfries town centre. The group has also delivered workshops for other young people and professionals across the region and at national events. |
